There was no vegetation along the way, just rocks and soil debris moving beneath our feet. On the bedrock surface were long parallel scratches, attributing to a slow but powerful glacial motion.
Arthur's Pass is a township in the heart of the Southern Alps (New Zealand). We camped at the village for a night and set out for the hike in Avalanche Peak the following morning.
